Leadership Awards

Results work is made extraordinary by the efforts of ordinary people, volunteers, parliamentarians, and NFP organisations, with the help of journalists and corporate partners. Each year we acknowledge the contribution of those people at our Annual Leadership Awards. We have five categories of awards representing those who have made an exceptional contribution to our work over the past 12 months.

Our 2022 Leadership Awards

In 2022 Results hosted an inspiring conversation between elder statesman the Hon. Gareth Evans AC QC and two emerging young leaders, Dominic Dwyer of the Youth National Security Strategy, and Thenu Herath, CEO of Oaktree. Skillfully MC'd by journalist Nicole Clements, discussion focused on the vital role Australia can play in addressing global poverty, climate change, and broader health and security threats in our region and beyond.

We also recognised the good international citizens in our midst by delivering our annual Leadership Awards that acknowledges outstanding volunteer Advocates, journalists, corporations, and NGOs that help bring an end to global poverty.

Our 2022 keynote speakers

Professor Gareth Evans AC QC

Professor Gareth Evans AC QC was elected to Federal Parliament as Senator for Victoria (1978-96), and as MHR for Holt (1996-99); Cabinet Minister in the Hawke and Keating Labor Governments from 1983-96 in the posts of Attorney General (1983-4), Minister for Resources and Energy (1984-7), Minister for Transport and Communications (1987-8) and Foreign Minister (1988-96); Leader of the Government in the Senate (1993-96) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives (1996-98). From 2000 to 2009, President and CEO of the Brussels-based independent global conflict prevention and resolution organisation, the International Crisis Group, and from 2010-19 Chancellor of the Australian National University.
He co-chaired two major International Commissions, on Intervention and State Sovereignty (2000-01), and Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (2008-10), and member of a number of others. Currently Co-Chairs the International Advisory Board of the New-York based Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, and Chairs the Advisory Board of the ANU Centre for Asian-Australian Leadership. Founding Convenor and Board Member of the Asia Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN).
He was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2012 for his "eminent service to international relations, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, as an adviser to governments on global policy matters, to conflict prevention and resolution, and to arms control and disarmament".

Thenu Herath

Thenu is a representative of the Youth National Security Strategy. She is the CEO of Oaktree, a non-profit that supports young people champion sustainable development in the Indo-Pacific. Alongside her role at Oaktree, Thenu is also a Global Shaper at the World Economic Forum and was named a YAIA Young Woman to Watch in International Affairs in 2022. She has a degree in politics and international studies and is currently completing her Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne.

Dom Dwyer

Dom is one of the co-founders and Executive Directors of the Youth National Security Strategy. He is completing a PhD on scholarship at the ANU, where his research has focused on the intersection of economic, political, and strategic dynamics in Asia. Alongside his studies, Dom has worked in parliament, in government, and at a think tank active in aid and development. He has also written widely on international affairs, with articles published in The Strategist, Australian Foreign Affairs, and Insights.

Results Political Leader Award

Parliamentarians make significant contributions to Results work as hard-working and influential leaders, members of the Parliamentary TB Caucus, which informs MPs and Senators of the value of funding research, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, and supporters in Parliament of immunisation programs that protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases including Polio, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and measles, nutrition programs and support for COVID 19 programs.

Results Advocate Leadership Award – Extensive Service

Advocates and Volunteers are our lifeblood – without them, we would achieve little – they are deeply committed to Results and are valued highly by Results they write letters; they write to their MP; they visit their MP and they trek to Canberra to meet their MP and senators. Some Volunteers have been supporting Results since we were established more than 30 years ago.

Results Advocate Leadership Award

Advocates and Volunteers are our lifeblood – without them, we would achieve little – they are deeply committed to Results and are valued highly by Results they write letters; they write to their MP; they visit their MP and they trek to Canberra to meet their MP and senators. As an Advocate young people learn skills readily applicable and valuable in their careers. Some Volunteers also get out and run or cycle bringing sponsorship funds to support our work.

Results Media Leader Award

Results rely heavily on the support of media in bringing important stories about global health to the attention of the Australian Public. They also publish letters from our Advocates highlighting the vital impact and value of Australian Aid.

Results Corporate Leader Award

Our valuable corporate partners provide us with direct funds, substantial discounts and in-kind donations for which we are immensely grateful. Our corporate partners recognise that their investment in an incredibly efficient organisation is value for money. Results operate on very limited funds converting it to 300 times its original value each year through advocacy for global health investments in reliable and trustworthy global institutions including the Global Fund and Gavi the Vaccine alliance.
