RESULTS International Conference 2020
June 20 - June 21
Virtual Conference: June 20-21
In May 1980, Sam Daley-Harris organised a meeting of 12 people in Los Angeles to learn about what people and governments could do about world hunger, and write to their Members of Congress. This was the beginning of what has become RESULTS, and people from across the United States and other countries including Australia, became part of the RESULTS network subsequently. Many of us have joined RESULTS for a similar reason to the first groups in Los Angeles – we recognised that hunger and poverty were huge issues but were not sure what we could do as individuals, and RESULTS showed us the power each of us has when we take action personally.
As 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of RESULTS as an International network of advocates, the RESULTS leadership had been planning a special International Conference to celebrate this milestone. Like everyone else, RESULTS has needed to change its plans, but a different type of special International Conference is still happening next month. On the weekend of 20 and 21 June, people can join the Conference from wherever they are via video link to take part in sessions to learn about key issues and develop advocacy skills and in the following week, we can apply the knowledge and skills in advocacy meetings with our members of Parliament and the World Bank.
Given the time difference between Australia and the United States, we may be able to participate ‘live’ in only a few of the sessions of the Conference, although we can catch up with recordings of the sessions soon after. Many of us can use the following week to start or deepen our relationship with our Members of Parliament.
