NELSON Mandela’s very own “Princess of Africa”, pop star Yvonne Chaka Chaka, was invited to Tasmania two years ago by Moonah Primary School teacher, Angela Marquis who wanted to educate Tasmanian school children about malaria, and help raise money for a UN initiative, NothingButNets.net.

Yvonne, a UN Goodwill ambassador for Malaria, tells Polly McGee that she has always used music to express her views.

“I was born in South Africa and during apartheid, the only thing that one could do was sing, or be a poet, and tell the world about all the atrocities that were happening,” she says.

Interview aired on 936 ABC Hobart on July 27, 2014.
