Education for All?

Read the report prepared by RESULTS International (Australia) entitled Education for All: Or Just Those Easier to Reach? HERE or the media release HERE.

The achievement of Education for All is imperative to the achievement of the MDG’s, but more importantly, is a powerful force for poverty reduction and empowers people to control their own lives.  RESULTS International (Australia) has undertaken research to evaluate the success of ‘Education for All’ for three development organisations, AusAID, the World Bank and The Asian Development Bank in three of our neighbours, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and The Philippines. The research specifically focused on access to education for girls and children with disabilities, and how policies have translated into ‘on the ground’ action and results. RESULTS’ report finds that although all three organisations recognise the importance of access to education for girls and children with disabilities, a gap remains between strategy, policy, and ‘on-the-ground’ results. Particularly alarmingly, 98% of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school. This, and similar figures indicate that there is a great deal of work to be in improving access to quality education in our region.
