LAST week I saw an ABC interview with Mildura farmers about overseas aid.
One of the farmers interviewed said “we can’t just be giving, giving, giving” and “a lot of it I don’t think is benefiting them”.
This perpetuates the myths that we give a lot of overseas aid and that it does no good.
We give less than one per cent of the Commonwealth budget to overseas aid and even this small amount makes a huge difference.
For example, aid from Australia and other wealthy countries has been central to halving child and maternal deaths throughout the world since 1990.
