Our Foreign Aid Saves Children’s Lives

Peter Graves | Sunraysia Daily | 11 May 2017

Thanks for Mr Gamble’s comments on Australia’s overseas help (“Australia should solve its own problems first”, Sunraysia Daily, May 8). Contrast them with the 900 million people overseas living on US$1.90 each day – less than the price of a cup of coffee in Australia.

Each day, 17,000 of their children die from preventable causes like diarrhoea from drinking dirty water, or tetanus.

One dose of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine costs about US$0.20. Overseas, 12 children under the age of five have died each minute of reading this.

Australia’s aid helps those children to be alive after five. That’s why I support our foreign aid.
