Leading the Fight Against Child Deaths and Poverty

Key Message

  • 1.5 million children die each year from vaccine preventable diseases
  • These cause poverty through out-of-pocket healthcare costs, lost time at work and school
  • Poverty perpetuates these diseases via inadequate health care, sanitation and housing
  • Between 2016 and 2020, Gavi The Vaccine Alliance will vaccinate an additional 300 million children
  • This will result in an additional 5-6 million lives saved and economic benefits of US$ 80-100 billion
  • Australia should invest no less than AU $100 billion per year into Gavi
