The access to education is a critical factor in reducing poverty and generating economic growth in developing countries.
Sadly, there are 67 million primary school age children around the world who are not attending school.
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is a significant multilateral education fund that is dedicated to the goal of free, universal, basic education for all.
The GPE replenishment conference will be held in November 2011, with the aim of raising $8 billion towards closing the education gap.
Australia will co-sponsor the conference, and we need to call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Kevin Rudd as a leader of the GPE to increase Australia’s financial contribution and encourage increased financial support from other donor countries.
